Microbiology
This page contains resources that are relevant to microbiology specifications in GCSE Biology. The materials will also allow teachers to develop students’ understanding of How Science Works.
Infectious disease and food poisoning are described and students can independently investigate their causes and how modern medicines have been developed to tackle infections.
The resources allow students to explore how scientific ideas have changed over time and resulted in today’s understanding of microbes. Materials examine early theories, such as spontaneous generation, and show how developments in understanding eventually led to Pasteur's germ theory. Examples, such as advances in medicine, illustrate the application of our current understanding of microbes.
