Guidance and case studies
This page contains case studies and links to external materials to help with the provision of GCSE Biology in your school.
The case studies have been written by practising teachers with experience of implementing and delivering GCSE Biology, to provide ideas and inspiration. They have clear curriculum links and detailed lesson plans that demonstrate innovative approaches to teaching biology topics, including:
- biofuels
- natural selection
- herd immunity
- pre-implantation genetic diagnosis (PGD)
- kidney transplants and dialysis.
Teachers can discover how other schools are encouraging debate and informed decisions on issues such as stem cell research, health and human fertility. Many of the case studies deal with content related to How Science Works and each concludes with an analysis of the activity by a classroom teacher.
You will find publications relevant to the GCSE Biology specifications and support materials from other organisations such as Becta.
