Optics

This page contains a range of resources to help teachers and students improve their understanding of optics and its applications. There are resources that will help teachers who are new to delivering GCSE Physics as well as materials that will appeal to established practitioners.

You will find

  • Resources related to reflection, refraction, total internal reflection, imaging, magnification and focal length, and the uses and applications of these (eg the uses of fibre optics and comparisons of digital and analogue signal transmission). The resources include:
    • interactive teaching materials and suggested activities
    • quizzes that help students understand underlying concepts and applications
    • resources to support practical work
    • information on how a range of optical devices work and how such devices are used.
  • Links to websites and resources matched to GCSE Physics specifications and produced by the Institute of Physics and other organisations including the American Physics Classroom, S-Cool, gcse.com, Glenbrook, telescope.com and Antonine Education UK.

Specification links: AQA 13,4, Edexcel 360 P6, OCR Gateway P5, OCR 21st Century Science P6, WJEC P3.3.

If you cannot find what you want in the listed resources, enter keywords from your specification in the Search box on the right. Reduce the number of ‘hits’ by using inverted commas to search for phrases.
