Peer coaching in chemistry and physics

Support less-experienced colleagues in delivering Triple Science GCSEs

Experienced chemistry and physics teachers can support newer colleagues in delivering Triple Science through peer coaching – a widely-used technique for knowledge sharing in post-16 settings.LSN offers specialists in physics and chemistry one-day, in-school training in effective peer coaching.

Peer coaching will enable you to:

  • Develop the skills to coach colleagues and assist in their development
  • Learn how to set goals and targets for your own CPD
  • Develop further expertise in teaching Triple Science GCSEs
  • Meet with other specialists to share ideas and resources
  • Strengthen applications for threshold payments, by increasing your understanding of how to use and adapt a range of teaching and learning strategies (requirement P2)

And your school will benefit from:

  • A cost-effective CPD model that can have a lasting impact on your department
  • Increased learner attainment and improved inter-colleague knowledge transfer
  • Confidence and enthusiasm in teaching Triple Science GCSEs – particularly for teachers new to Triple Science

Peer coaching training is available to Heads of Science, Deputy Heads of Science and physics and chemistry specialists from specialist Science, Engineering, Technology and Mathematics and Computing colleges, and other schools planning to introduce triple science GCSEs in 2009 or 2010
