Introduction to e-Learning project
We are delighted to introduce the Triple Science e-learning project, developed to complement and enhance the Triple Science Support Programme. This project has been developed to provide additional support for teachers who are delivering or preparing to deliver Triple Science GCSEs.
The 15 e-learning units (5 × Biology, 5 × Chemistry and 5 × Physics) can be used as stand-alone activities, but together they build into a coherent course, supporting the implementation of e-learning to deliver Triple Science. They have been developed using a focused yet simple approach to support the effective integration of technology into science teaching. The activities provide a differentiated learning experience for the teachers; more importantly, they have all been developed to make a difference in the classroom. Many of the activities have been developed to foster collaboration and to support knowledge transfer, which is important for all science departments. They will provide further support for partnerships and networks that are looking for creative ways to offer Triple Science GCSEs collaboratively.
The project sets out to harness the potential of social networking and Web 2.0 technologies, e.g. podcasting, blogging and video editing, and combine them with more traditional motivational ICT activities (e.g. quizzes) to provide teachers with powerful teaching and learning tools. Many of the activities have been developed using the popular technologies that students use frequently outside school (e.g. social networking, podcasting and subscribing). They will provide teachers with experience of how these technologies can be used as motivational tools, and to enhance science teaching and learning.
The project was developed after extensive consultation with focus groups and teachers to ensure the technology used will make a difference to teaching and learning, and maximise sustained gains for students and teachers.
