e-Learning
We are delighted to introduce the Triple Science Support Programme e-learning project. This project has been developed to provide additional support for teachers who are delivering or preparing to deliver Triple Science GCSEs.
The 25 e-learning units (8 Biology, 8 Chemistry and 9 Physics were developed following extensive consultation with focus groups and teachers to identify hard to teach topics in the extension units for Triple Science GCSEs. Each module has been developed using a focused yet simple approach that looks at the barriers to teaching these topics and considers how e-learning could help teachers to overcome these challenges. We have selected easy to use, freely downloadable technologies that can make a difference to teaching and learning by motivating students and allowing teachers to explore new teaching models in science lessons, maximising gains for teachers and students. Many of the activities have been developed using the popular technologies that students use frequently outside school (e.g. social networking, podcasting and subscribing).
The modules can be completed as stand alone activities, but together they build into a coherent course that supports the use of e-learning in delivering Triple Science GCSEs. Teachers who have an intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word and are regular users of web 2.0 technologies (ie wikis, social networking sites, podcasting) may be happy to work through the modules alone. The Triple Science Support Programme is also offering training in the e-learning modules for those who would like additional support – for more information see: SLC - E-learning events.
These activities have been developed to foster collaboration (developing a learning community) and to support knowledge transfer, which is important for all science departments. They will provide further support for partnerships and networks that are looking for creative ways to offer Triple Science GCSEs collaboratively.
